My Story

Hello, I'm Lauren the owner and founder here at Calmly Candles.

I have an obsession with candles, whenever I feel low I want one lit in every room of the house, when I'm cleaning I light even more to make the house smell beautiful and when I have guests I have multiple lit to make the house feel homely and warm.

So back in November 2020 we're coming out of another lockdown and I find myself in a cute little bits & bobs shop, looking to buy more candles. I started thinking what I would need to do to make my own, not only to feed my obsession but to also know what is going in to each candle. I am a worrier and I like to know what I'm breathing in as I burn lots of candles in my home, I want to know it's safe! It's so difficult, actually near impossible, to find this information out from a candle sold in large retailers.

I decided to do lots of research and found a few brands that were being transparent with the products they used and explaining what ingredients are safe or harmful in candles. I didn't find as many companies as I wanted, that were being open with the products they used. So I felt like there was a market here for me to introduce a safe candle company, that is eco-conscious and is happy to open up a discussion about what is safe. 

At Calmly Candles we are all about having an open discussion, I didn't know how harmful so many candles can be just because of the wax they use, or the wick used or even the fragrance that is used. So I can only imagine there are lots of you who also were not aware of this.

Here at Calmly I have created candles that use 100% soy wax, which is a natural and renewable source, I use 100% cotton wicks and have made clear which candles use fragrance and which use 100% essential oils. I also source my equipment and raw materials from local companies in the industry to help reduce my carbon footprint. 

We now also plant a tree for every order of candles! We are working with Ecologi and you can have a look at our forest growing here. 

I am really happy with the company I have created so far, we have recently had a revamp with our branding that I feel has given the candles the elevation and fun, luxury feel they deserve.

I honestly love every scent I have made in the collection, but if I had to have one favourite it would be Cinnamon! Christmas is my favourite time of year, I would celebrate it every day just to enjoy being with my family & eating too much food and the Cinnamon candle reminds me of those lovely festivities!
